G.A.Y. get heavenly

Wednesday, 24 September 2008

Stick something in the rumour mill for long enough and the truth will out. Eventually. London clubland has been rife with talks of takeovers and closures lately but finally the truth is out. G.A.Y. have announced they are the new owners of Heaven, the legendary London nightclub whose arches have seen history made so often.

In a statement to the press this week Jeremy Joseph of G.A.Y. stated “I’m proud & excited that I can now confirm that G-A-Y is now the new owners of Heaven Nightclub. Together its 44 years of gay history and after years of being competition to each other, the worlds best known gay club becomes the home to the worlds most famous gay club night.“

“Despite much speculation about the future of Heaven,” he continued “it is my priority to make sure not only will Heaven be the new home for G-A-Y, but also to continue the success of other nights, allowing Heaven to be a diverse venue, making it’s Britain’s best gay club. The next couple of weeks I will spend getting to re-know Heaven & will be making plans that will include a major refurb. The future of Heaven will be announced very soon but it is something I will not be rushing into and any major decisions will not be made until I know I’m making the right decision, getting advice from both the G-A-Y team & the current Heaven team”

The line-up at Heaven will see the return of Camp Attack on Fridays with Mondays remaining as Popcorn and Wednesdays remaining Patrick Lilley’s WORK! The night G.A.Y. will launch its new Heaven Saturday residency from the 11th October.

Commenting on the change of ownership, promoter Patrick Lilley of Work! said “the new owners of Heaven Nightclub, Mama PLC & GAY Ltd, will be investing £5million into the venue over the next few months. This investment heralds a new era at Heaven and Mama PLC and Gay Ltd have invited WORK! to continue to reflect the diversity of London's vibrant club scene at Heaven on Wednesday nights”.
